Double O is focused on bringing together an increasingly divided and fragmented society. We believe in the power of music and shared experiences to reconnect us. Across the UK, we protect the spaces, fund access, and back the young people making the music that brings us together.
By supporting access to education, creative spaces, and live opportunities, we strengthen the infrastructure that helps communities find each other again.
Who We Are
Double O was established in 1976 by rock group The Who, and in 1983 Pete Townshend assumed operation of the charity. Double O was originally established to help fund the Chiswick women’s refuges, and later Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
Over the past 50 years, the trust has dispersed over £8 million in funds for the relief of drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence and sexual abuse. Grants have also been made to support youth & prison reform, disaster relief and music access and education.
From 2025, Double O’s focus is access to music for young people and underserved communities across the UK. Guided by a belief in the power of music and community to support a culture of care to thrive.
